That mother system is maintained and will be maintained in future independently from popularity of iMatrix project. At second, iMatrix is a kind of promotion of proven solutions on worldwide market and attempt to find business partners for mobile ticketing applications worldwide. And the last reason - mother system is focused on owners of ordinal GSM camera-phones; that auditory is much wider.

We use QR Code (Quick Response) code developed by Japanese corporation Denso-Wave in 1994. More details are here. iMatrix code is QR Code, Version 1 with Q error correction level. It includes one 27-digit number that is unique within the system. We use this code because long and complex tests have shown that it is more reliable in mobile applications than Datamatrix with comparable capacity.

The most important reason for that is a fact that our solution must be compatible with plenty of different mobile phones on the market. Because of several limitations like weak Java spanshoot possibilities, low processing power of phone's CPU, lack of memory and poor quality of images for close objects, we have to use simple, easily detectable code. It means compact but well scaled.
Also, most of content is on the web and, hence, there is no sense to keep all data in the code itself. Using code as ID only makes system more scalable and more dynamic.
